Ultimate Guts & Blackpowder Tier List

Release Time:2025-04-04 23:40 Source:Internet Author:Rookie

Guts & Blackpowder is primarily a zombie survival game based on the Napoleonic Wars period, featuring a PvP mode as well. You can choose from a wide variety of classes and weapons from the 19th century to take on the undead enemies and capture objectives. In this guide, you'll find a tier list ranking all classes and weapons in the game with recommendations for the best ones for beginners.

Guts & Blackpowder Classes Tier List

ClassTierPros/Cons
Infantry
S+Beginner friendly, basic, and most balanced class you can choose
+Offers a wide variety of weapons to unlock and select from
+Excels in close-range (bayonet) and long-range fights (musket/rifle)
-Slow reload speed on weapons is a minor drawback induced to keep this class balanced
Sapper
S+Perfect for close-quarters combat thanks to the powerful Axe, but upgrade to Pickaxe for better swing speed and damage
+Can build defenses to slow down hordes of zombies
+Equip the Engineer Armor for damage reduction at the cost of slightly reduced speed
-Not the best class for engaging enemies at a distance
Officer
A+Agile operators that carry pistols as their primary weapon
+Pistols are faster to reload than most weapons and have a decent damage output
+Enter War Cry mode for a boost to swing speed and movement speed to all players
-Stands out in close-range combat only
Seaman
A+Has some good high-damage and explosive-firing weapon options
+Superb against large hordes converging at the team's position
+Offers good melee weapons like Boarding Axe and Hand Axe
-Their firepower is best suited for close-range encounters only
Surgeon
B+The medic of the team who takes care of the wounded by healing them
+Secondary weapon Sabre allows crowd control when needed
-Healing others takes time but it can be reduced by upgrading to the Extended Surgeon Kit
-You must fight and kill zombies to obtain supplies
Chaplain
B+Effective against large hordes and can stop them temporarily when getting overwhelmed
+Can heal infected team members
-Not a very useful set of weaponry when it comes to combat and crowd control
-An easily replaceable class
Musician
C+A chill class to pick if you want a laid-back gameplay experience
+Play instruments to provide temporary buff to teammates' stats like reload speed, damage, and swing
-Although they're equipped with a Sabre, no primary weapon means they can't fight in dire situations
-The music can be annoying to some players

This tier list represents my opinion on the best and least valuable classes in the game. However, you can utilize every class effectively by structuring the team properly. For instance, the Musician isn't much loved by the community. But you may have one in your team for those small yet meaningful buffs is acceptable.

Best Class for Beginners

As a newbie player, you must pick a class that is easy to operate, fast to learn, and reasonably powerful so you don't have a hard time. Simply put, you can try out the following beginner-friendly classes in Guts & Blackpowder:

  • Infantry: As mentioned previously in the tier list, this is the most balanced class and a jack-of-all-trades. Inline Infantrymen's Muskets can fire a powerful pellet and can also be used to stab targets (thanks to the bayonet).
  • Officer: If you want to be a bit more swift on the battlefield, Officer class should be your go-to choice. Their fast reloading Pistol and standard Sabre combo can easily help you survive zombie attacks given you coordinate well with the team.
  • Seaman: A perfect choice for players getting into hardcore and endless modes because this unit specializes in taking out hordes coming at you. Their powerful firearms are best for crowd control.

Best Class for PvP

Players often overlook the PvP mode in Guts & Blackpowder as most enjoy playing the classic zombie survival experience. Despite that, you may find a server with players fighting against each other in a deathmatch-style mode. In Guts & Blackpowder PvP, the best classes will remain the same as earlier: Infantry, Officer, and Seaman. That's because the weapon selection of these units is perfect for fighting against real players, unlike others who carry equipment to heal, build, and boost stats.

-Doesn't fit anywhere and hinders teamplay
Nock Gun
C+Outstanding firepower just like the Infantry's Rifle

-Musician isn't a preferred class amongst many players
Fife
C+Boosts reload speed by 20%
-Musician isn't a preferred class amongst many players
Drum
C+Boosts swing rate by 35%
-Runners are attracted to Drums
-Musician isn't a preferred class amongst many players
Stake
C+Fast swing rate
-Weakest melee tool in the game with poor range
Tar Bottle
D+Deals fire damage to zombies over time
-Limited uses
-Damage is not enough to take out hordes, just slow them down for a bit
Grenades
D+Very high explosive damage suitable for crowd control
-Limited uses
-Requires timed and accurate throw to work effectively

Best Weapons for Beginners

While some of the top-tier weapons from the list above are available right off the bat, you can unlock others by spending Francs. Considering beginners don't have access to or want to spend money early on, here are some free and inexpensive best weapon recommendations:

  • Infantry
    • Musket: Undoubtedly, this should be your go-to choice if you're playing the Infantry unit. You can shoot and charge with Bayonet to hold off zombie waves.
    • Carbine: You can spend just 300 Francs to unlock this faster reloading weapon with improved firepower.
    • Heavy Sabre: 500 Francs for a worthy upgrade to the standard Sabre.
  • Officer
    • Pistol: The starter pistol is your best friend if you don't want to spend money.
    • Double Barrel Pistol: The only upgrade you would need for the Officer unit costs 1300 Francs.
  • Seaman
    • Blunderbuss: Stick with the base weapon that's superior at crowd control than any other firearm.
  • Musician: Depends on what your teammate's demands are, but the Fife and Sabre combination is generally pretty good.
  • Sapper
    • Hammer: A no-brainer tool that you'll use to fortify your base.
    • Pickaxe: One of my favorite melee tools in Guts & Blackpowder available for 450 Francs.
  • Surgeon: Look no further than Sabre and Medical Supplies for the medic class.
  • Chaplain: Get the Stake to poke your enemies and keep the Blessing to cure teammates. Furthermore, use the Crucifix for crowd control in dire situations.

Best Weapons for PvP

As talked about previously, Infantry, Officer, and Seaman are my recommended classes for PvP games simply because of their weapon choices. The best weapons for these classes in PvP are going to be the same as in regular zombie mode:

  • Infantry: Carbine and Heavy Sabre
  • Officer: Double Barrel Pistol and Sabre
  • Seaman: Blunderbuss and Sabre or Navy Pistol and Hand Axe
